Bio
Rush Dorsett is a soprano singer, sound healer, and voice coach dedicated to creating transformation in the world through the power of sound. She seeks to communicate an internal truth through her art that, when expressed, illuminates a part of humanity that can move, touch, and inspire audiences.
As a vocal performer, she is known for her versatile tone palette, expressive musicianship, and dynamic collaboration skills. Her warm yet silvery tone and naturalness on stage bring an authenticity and adventure to her performances that span both traditional and contemporary repertoire.
As a Voice Coach, she is Founder of her company, Embodied Voice Coaching, a holistic voice training online studio that supports creatives in connecting with their authentic voice through embodiment practices founded on Somatic principles. She teaches both private, 1×1 lessons, and also facilitates her online group course, The Embodied Voice Academy. Her work supports people seeking to awaken their authentic voice and to express their truth within through the power of voice and music.
Rush is a sought-after chamber musician and interpreter of new works, performing mixed media compositions, modern oratorios, and recitals. Dorsett thrives in the collaborative process, finding joy and passion in sharing creative ideas and working with composers to bring new works to life. Her performances also explore the connection between classical singing and sound healing via crystal bowls and mantra singing.
Rush earned a dual degree in Vocal Performance and Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. She continues to follow research in the field of Psychology to integrate the science of the mind with music.
She earned her Master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy at New England Conservatory (NEC) in Boston, where she received a merit based scholarship, academic honors, publicly presented her research theses on “Vocal Fatigue” and “Emotions in Singing”, and also performed several lead roles on the NEC opera stage. Rush currently resides in Durham, NC, where she teaches voice, composes and rehearses from her home studio. In addition to her career in music, Rush is also active as a Life Coach, Healing Arts practitioner, RYT-certified yoga instructor, and YogaVoice® facilitator. She trained in Acutonics® (tuning fork therapy), and crystal bowl healing at the Divine Resonance Center in Asheville, NC, and currently offers both private and group sound healing sessions for her clients. Rush received leadership coaching training with Next Level Trainings and also studies with the International Modern Mystery School where she is a Certified Life Activation Practitioner and additionally offers reiki, crystal healing, and aura healing.
Her vision for integrating her work as a musician, coach and spiritual practitioner is to invite a holistic approach to artistry, inviting us to ask the questions: “Who am I as an artist?” “What is possible in the world when we relate to one another from a freely expressed place?”
