Would you love to be able to sing and/or speak in front of a group of people and know that even when you feel nervous, you can still perform at your best?

This is 100% possible, and in fact, this is the whole purpose of vocal training – to prepare you for those moments.

Often I hear students say things like:
“I can imagine what I want my voice to sound like…but when it comes time to perform, it doesn’t come out quite right.”

The truth is:
Feeling nervous is normal. The key to great performing is to train your voice to come out at its best even when those nerves kick in.

Imagine the confidence and peace of mind that comes with knowing that you can trust your voice to be there for you in any situation, no matter how nervous you feel.

So, how do we do this?

There are 3 key elements for trusting your voice

1. Physical alignment
This is where systematic vocal technique comes in. It’s about aligning your posture and breathing mechanisms for healthy vocal resonance. It’s how we release patterns of tension around your voice.
Ask yourself:
Am I embodying confident stage presence? Is my body aligned for powerful speaking and singing?

Solution: Have a practice for letting go of unnecessary tension so that your voice comes out strong, even when you feel nervous when performing.

I recommend having a voice lesson to help you identify and shift the patterns of tension to you may be holding that are causing your body to react to nerves and shut down the voice.

During a lesson we can find your body’s optimal alignment and create pathways for your body to stay open and relaxed so that the voice comes out freely and sounds its best.

2. Energetic alignment:
This might sound esoteric, but, the chakras are tangibly related to the voice.
When they are aligned, the chakras help our voice to open
because they influence our physical bodies at a core level.
The also are key to connecting with your authentic expression.

Ask yourself:
Are my chakras aligned, or, do I feel blocked in my expression and can’t seem to get my voice to come  out the way I’d like it to?
Solution: Practice chakra-voice exercises as a daily warm-up!

You can check out some of my video trainings on this (there are plenty in the Free Your Voice FB group, for example!)

I also offer 1×1 chakra-voice alignment sessions where I can help you create your own practice for freeing up your voice by aligning your chakras, based on your unique mind-body system.

3. Spiritual alignment:
You might have heard the saying: “Get out of your ‘head’ and into your heart.”

For performing, this means letting go of the ‘inner critic’ and the tendency to get overly mental.

By contract, when you can get ’embodied’ in your expression, that is when you can be in the ‘flow,’ feel your best, and move listeners’ in a positive way with your message.

Ask yourself:
Am I being open to creative inspiration and flow as it moves through me, or, am I being overly critical or self-conscious, and overthinking?

Solution: Create the conditions for ‘Flow State’ to occur when you are about to perform.
(Yes, this is something you can systematically practice!)

For example, in a voice lesson, you can learn practices for creating the conditions for flow state to occur.

Being in flow state allows you to be confident and joyful while performing, because you are trusting that your voice and authentic expression will ‘flow.’

In summary:
When all three of these keys come together – Physical alignment, Energetic alignment and Spiritual alignment – that is when we have success in performing and can truly trust our voice to be at its best.
