I want to share with you a common question someone recently asked me:

How do I create confidence in my voice?

(This person was experiencing performance anxiety before getting on camera to create videos for her audience, and noticed that her voice was shutting down).

I was glad she asked, because I hear this a lot from people.

The questions I often hear sound like:

  • “How do I get over my fear of being seen?”
  • “How do I create a daily vocal practice where I know exactly what to do to get my voice in the ‘right place’?”
  • “How do I build confidence so that I can really depend on my voice to be there when I need it?”

I understand these thoughts completely!

The truth is, (and the science also shows)… That confidence is not about raw talent.

It’s not something that some people are just born with.

Rather…

Confidence is a SKILL that you can build sequentially.

There are tangible vocal exercises designed to build confidence in your voice

(I didn’t just make these exercises up! They come from a long lineage of systematic vocal technique that has been tested over 100s of years in the voice science path!)

What both yogis and vocal pedagogues have discovered over time is that

there are specific qualities that constitute a confident voice, including:

  • Resonance, based on harmonics present in the voice
  • Vibrancy and fullness in tone
  • Natural inflection and range
  • Expressive qualities (like dynamics)
  • Clear vocal onset

You might be wondering:

does training the physical voice create confidence, or do I have to feel confidence first to then bring these qualities into the physical voice?

(AKA– “which comes first, the chicken or the egg?”)

The answer is: both!

  • When you train the physical voice, it naturally sends a feedback signal to the nervous system, and makes you FEEL more confident as a result.

  • Likewise, when you FEEL more confident, you are likely to have alignment in your mind/body/energy system, which in turn is channeled into the physical voice

Fascinating, right!?

So, how do you practice BOTH alignment in the mind/body and also create the vocal qualities that build confidence?

This is where we apply the YogaVoice® method + Systematic Vocal technique!

The results:

  • Reduction of anxiety and increased ENJOYMENT in performing
  • A voice tone that CAPTIVATES listeners
  • The vibrant feeling of CONFIDENCE in your expression

The tools to practice vocal confidence are simple, fun, (and actually don’t take a lot of time!)
