Embodying the elements for vocal awakening — why is this important?
(I love the way I’ve studied via the YogaVoice® method and esoteric traditions, as well as my personal experience teaching and performing).
There are 5 primary elements we can use for awakening the voice:
Earth: represents stability, safety, and being grounded & connected in your body. It’s associated with the Root Chakra — which corresponds with a clear, resonant tone in the voice.
Water: represents emotions, life force energy, the formative qualities of creation, creativity & flow. It’s associated with Sacral Chakra — which allows you to freely access any pitch in your range – high, low voice, and mid-voice!
Fire: represents vibrancy, sense of self, confidence, will, and magnetism.
It’s associated with Solar Plexus – which creates agility & vibrancy in the voice and gives you the power to project your voice in any room without straining. It’s that soulfulness in the tone!
Air: represents heart-centeredness, breath, and expressiveness, powerful vulnerability. It’s associated with the Heart Chakra – which brings expressive and musical qualities into the voice, like dynamics (soft, loud, crescendo, decrescendo). These are the qualities that move listeners’ hearts!
Space or ‘Ether’: represents being the clear vessel through which the other elements flow. It’s associated with the Throat Chakra – which is our center for Truth in our expression (as well as our capacity to listen to others). Imagine being a clear open vessel for your truth to pour forth from you!
We also bring in the qualities of the
Third Eye and Crown Chakras, which allow us to attune to higher frequencies, have a calm and clear mind and respond spontaneously at the moment when we are expressing ourselves.
Can you imagine bringing all of these elemental qualities into your voice, and what that would do for your expression?
What would you create? How would you express it?
I love bringing the elements into the way I teach my voice students. It works wonders for both singing and public speaking in an embodied, authentic, connected, and powerful way that really lands with listeners.
